Gyrolab provides strategic advantage to innovative US-based Health and Wellness Company – PPM
Gyros announced that PPM, Predictive Physiology and Medicine, has selected Gyrolab™system to complement its protein analysis platform for the personalized bioprofiling of patients. Using a single blood test, the company conducts more than 500 measurements to produce an individualized assessment with bioprofiles in eight different areas of health.
PPM’s systems-level approach analyzes proteins, metabolites and elements. Although an equivalent does not currently exist, a comparable assessment using conventional technology would take several weeks and require approximately 20% of the average person’s total blood volume. Gyrolab analysis of targeted proteins takes less than one hour and requires just microliters of blood. This enables PPM to return results to the physician in just two days.
Brian Kleber, COO of PPM, stated: “Gyrolab was the obvious choice for the targeted protein analysis portion of our bioprofiling. The small blood volumes for analysis, automated process, and high throughput were the key dealmakers for us. We want to provide our customers with rapid, robust and accurate results in the least invasive manner possible and Gyrolab fulfills those requirements perfectly. Conventional technology comes nowhere near in terms of productivity and accuracy. Our closest competitor takes two weeks to provide results – we can provide them within two days.”
Lars Eric Utterman, CEO of Gyros, commented: “We are pleased to see that applications for Gyrolab are continually broadening and achieving a wider base. Gyrolab is ideally suited to the work that PPM is carrying out in proteomics and we expect to see more and more of these types of applications for Gyrolab in the future.”
The health and wellness industry was worth over $110 billion US dollars in 2006 and is growing at an annual rate of 15-30%; compared to 7% growth for the conventional healthcare sector. PPM is positioned to answer the increasing demand for personalized health and wellness products.
Baby Boomers – Demographic Driver
Demand for proactive healthcare management is a result of changing demographics in the US. Over the next five years, the number of people aged 50-64 will increase by 8.1 million; 10,000 baby boomers turn 50 every single day. Many are seeking out health and wellness strategies to maintain energy and vitality in later life.
