History

Gyros’ revolutionary Gyrolab platform was the product of years of work by
teams of dedicated scientists and technicians.

2015

Gyros launches Gyrolab xPlore ™, a single-CD, compact alternative to Gyrolab™ xP workstation, giving laboratories application flexibility and the agility to develop assays more quickly and increase data quality with reduced hands-on time.

2014

EMD Millipore launches five biomarker kits for use on Gyros’ immunoassay platforms.

2014

Gyros launches Gyrolab™ Protein A Kit for efficient quantification of residual protein A.

2013

Gyros partners with EMD Millipore to develop, manufacture and commercialize immunoassay kits for the Gyrolab platform.

2012

The installed base of Gyrolab workstations continues to grow. MPI Research becomes the first contract research organization in North America to secure a second Gyrolab xP workstation.

2010

By its 10th anniversary, Gyros has installed more than 75 Gyrolab workstations around the world.

2009

Gyros launches Gyrolab xP with 21 CFR part-11 compliance and extended validation support.

2006

Cambridge Antibody Technology (CAT) purchases a Gyrolab Bioaffy instrument. CAT is regarded as the jewel in the crown of British biotechnology and is subsequently acquired by AstraZeneca, which also has several Gyros´ instruments.

2005

Gyrolab wins the Frost & Sullivan ‘Laboratory Automation Excellence in Technology of the Year Award’.

2004

Gyros commences a collaboration with Fujirebio to develop diagnostic tests.

2003

Gyros makes a move into biopharma with Gyrolab Bioaffy 200 CD for nanoliter-scale protein quantification of biomarkers.

2002

The Bioaffy technology is presented for the first time, at the CHI conference Pep Talk: Protein Arrays in San Diego, in January.

2002

Gyros AB launches their first product – Gyrolab MALDI SP1 – for purifying protein samples for analysis by MALDI mass spectrometry.

2001

Gyros collaborates with a number of other vendors to explore new applications for CD-based microfluidics.

2000

Gyros AB is founded, spinning off from Amersham Pharmacia Biotech.

1999

Amersham Pharmacia Biotech and Åmic have filed more than 15 patent applications, covering cell-based assays and DNA sample prep and sequencing.

1998

Åmic AB is founded in Uppsala, specializing in molding microstructures in plastic. Amersham Pharmacia Biotech is its major customer.

1988-1998

The exploratory research department at Amersham Pharmacia Biotech in Uppsala, Sweden, has been working on miniaturization and microfluidics, on and off, for nearly 10 years.
